Introduction

My name is Holly Huckerby, I am currently at Manchester Met University, where I am studying Fashion Marketing. I enjoy the subject at university and want to explore it further by gaining work experience as I can learn new interests and skills that will help me in the future. Gemini Woman stood out to me due to being an independently-ran female fashion business, who have become successful due to their unity, individuality and creativity. Working with Gemini Woman is a great stepping-stone for gaining experience and developing my future in fashion.  

Site review/business performance  

For my introduction, I completed a site review activity on PowerPoint, where I got to learn about the company's competitors, digital marketing, and content, while offering my own opinions to improve the website. This was followed by learning about their business performance, trade reports, and analyzing the company's channel performance by completing their weekly sales in Excel. 

Digital content creating  

Throughout my time at Gemini, I have enjoyed taking part in and creating digital content for their website and social media. Due to having an interest already, I understood the tasks quickly. These include shooting reels, Instagram pictures and lookbooks while learning to edit them on CapCut and scheduling them using Klaviyo and Meta/Instagram. This was an exciting part of my work experience as I got to see an insight into content creation and see customers enjoy watching my creative ideas. This would not have been possible without help from Amber who guided me through the process of digital marketing.  

Email marketing  

Emma taught me the concept of email marketing by showing me the different layouts and designs of each email she sends off each day. She showed me her scheduling plan on Klaviyo and Venditan which helped me understand the process of email marketing. I completed an email marketing PowerPoint where I researched competitors' past and current email strategies using Milled. I also researched email imagery, messaging and clothing to get a better understanding of email marketing. These were all really useful skills which I can use in the future.  

Photography  

While at Gemini I got to partake in photoshoots while filming content for social media alongside Jess and Amber. One shoot in particular that I enjoyed was the leopard print and red collection for their autumn line, where we shot by the river Avon. I got to see insight into shoots and the hard work that goes into them. Jess then taught me flatlays and editing skills in Photoshop. I photographed the product imagery for Mama B to help Jess with the workload of a new collection. I learnt new techniques such as using the camera, lighting and Photoshop.  

Stock/dispatch  

On one of the days, I got to learn how Gemini process, pick and pack orders for customers. I got to label and print items that customers have bought and returned. When issuing the returns and refunds I had to upload them onto Venditan. This was interesting as I got to learn the receiving end of returning as normally, I am the consumer. It was interesting to see how important refund reasons are for analysis within a business.

Overall  

I have enjoyed my time at Gemini Women as I have learnt new skills and explored interests that I wouldn't have had the opportunity to without working here. These include; partaking in photoshoots, email marketing and content creation which I can adapt further in the future. I would highly recommend any aspirational girls who want to gain useful experiences explore a different outlook in the fashion world. Everyone is super helpful and friendly, which has made this experience more comfortable and welcoming.
