Antonia - Work Experience

My name is Antonia White. I am currently a student at the University of Bristol, studying History of Art. With a growing interest from previous experience in fashion and art from school and an art foundation year, I was keen to pursue work experience with Gemini to gain more knowledge and insight into the fashion industry.

Day 1

I worked on social content and photography alongside Photography Manager Jess and Content Assistant Amber. The photography aspect consisted of designing laydowns, photo editing and photoshoot inspiration. I learnt how to view the stock levels to decide which accessories to photograph for the laydowns.

After taking the photos, I learnt how to edit marks and labels out of the images using Photoshop.

In preparation for shoot day, I put together a presentation which included model poses and laydown ideas. I also carried out a competitor review to gather inspiration for Reels and TikToks ahead of shoot day and helped Amber to create a video content plan.

Day 2

Day two was exciting as it was a location shoot! Shoot day involved photographing models and laydowns and capturing behind-the-scenes content to post across social media. Following on from the shoot, Jess and I edited the images ready to use across marketing channels and on the site.

In the afternoon, the team had a content meeting where we discussed the upcoming month and the plans for socials, marketing and sales. Afterwards, Amber and I continued creating reels on the shop floor for Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. We filmed some stories for the day and created a footwear reel.

Day 3

On day 3, me and Amber began by filming a reel for Amazing Woman linen, reacting to the hot weather outside! Amber then guided me through using CapCut to edit the video together. We also prepped the studio for the podcast ready for filming on the following day.

Next, I worked with Emma on email marketing. It was extremely interesting as it was not something I was familiar with. Learning how to put together email GIFs and adding links to the images developed my technical and practical skills. After putting them together, we scheduled two emails. Milled aided my continuation of research on competitors, as well as trends and layout/design inspiration.

Finally, Amber went through defining for the new season arrivals, which I also found useful. I also learnt how to use tools such as the delivery tracker and navigating Venditan and Gemini’s SharePoint to find the necessary information needed to fill in the descriptions before the stock arrives in-store.

Day 4

On day 4 I spent the morning creating mood boards for the new collections ahead of the content meeting and podcast episode about the AU24 season. In the afternoon, I listened in on the autumn content meeting where we discussed top brands such as Mama B and Masai’s new collections, as well as key colours and fabrics. I finished my experience writing this blog to reflect on everything I have learnt and put together the visuals of my time at Gemini.

Overall

I enjoyed my work experience at Gemini as it provided me with new creative skills such as photo editing on Photoshop and it increased my knowledge of how to use scheduling tools for social media and email.

It was amazing to be a part of social content creation and learn more about trends and competitor reviews. Overall, my experience was very insightful into the fashion world and how it operates behind the scenes.
