Buyer's Guide to the Autumn Season
In today’s blog we are teasing our new collections for Autumn 2023 with an interview from Donna and Claire about the buying process at the start of the year, in preparation for this season. They delve into the upcoming season discussing the key fabrics and colours to expect... as well as their favourite pieces to come. We hope you enjoy and are as excited as us for some newness from our amazing brands!
1. How did it go?
It was a successful buying season. Even if we have reservations before seeing a collection, we normally feel confident in our selection when we leave and when it comes to putting together our final order, although you can’t always get it right! Now we wait for deliveries to start coming in and to see the customer reaction! A new season is always highly anticipated at Gemini.
2. What was your favourite moment from the trade shows you visited this year?
Scoop is always a good show as it is so colourful and inspirational, we love the beautiful floral displays – everything is so well thought out and the theme flows throughout. The fashion shows and talks at Pure are interesting as well as you get a good insight into the retail sector, and the fashion show allows you to see brands/ clothing that you might otherwise have missed.
3. What colours should customers expect for the AW 23 collections?
Rich autumn hues – burnt orange, jewelled greens, along with your faithful classic's ivory, navy and black of course. There are also some unexpected brighter hues, such as limes, and pinks!
4. What are you most excited about within the new collections?
Donna, Buying & Content Manager: Everything! But if we had to narrow it down, I would probably say the animal-inspired prints that we’ve got coming in from Masai, and the new knitwear styles from Amazing Woman which will pair greatly together. With this horrible summer weather I am definitely in the mood for Autumn now! Our new Luella Grey handbags are lovely, we adore the Lucia bag with its unique beaded handle. We also have an amazing velvet trouser suit which will be perfect for the Christmas party season, so I’ve got my eye on that.
5. What are the key fabrics within the new collections?
Lots of brands are working hard to be more sustainable which is great to see. Masai use a lot of FSC-certified viscose and cotton sourced from the Better Cotton Initiative, in fact 62% of their Autumn collection is certified or has been produced in a more sustainable manner. We of course have Mama B’s signature fleece coming in for Autumn winter which is always hugely popular for us.
