All you need to know about the brand THING
First of all, did you know that THING is actually pronounced ‘TING’? Many people do not know this because it is not the obvious pronunciation. However, THING was founded in Herning, Denmark in 1997 and hence that is the way it is supposed to be pronounced. Sounds much nicer now doesn’t it?
THING was founded by a gentleman named Kenneth Christiansen who had a passion for creating feminine, ageless pieces for every type of woman, and he still owns the brand to this day. Kenneth’s aim for THING was to bring out the customers personality in the clothes that he created for them, and I’m sure most of you can vouch for me when I say that he has certainly done this job extremely well.
Now, lets get down to the details of the garments and how they are created so lovingly. THING has two cooperation partners in Poland who take care of everything to do with production including cutting, sewing, dying and making. It is extremely important to THING that they have a friendship bond with their workers to ensure consistency and care is being put into every single garment that is made. The majority of THING garments are Oeko-Tex certified meaning that all fabrics are sustainable, free from harmful chemicals and safe for human use. This however is not the only way THING are sustainable; THING ensure that all production stays within Europe meaning that everything is transported via road instead of needing to use long haul flights.
I hear you asking what makes THING fabrics so special and why do we as a retailer buy into them? Well, for starters most THING garments are made of linen as it is one of their signature materials. A lot of time and effort goes into creating the linen garments to make them as unique and fabulous as possible. THING make their linen to be the perfect weight meaning less creasing for the person who purchases it. They do this by having the linen structure both horizontal and vertical. They also have a very important shrinking process for the garments once they have been sewed, washed and dried. The shrinking process ensures that the garments keep their shape, and are as soft and comfortable as possible.
However, not all THING garments are made from their signature linen. They also produce other pieces made from other basic materials such as Viscose and Bamboo. Bamboo is another great environmentally friendly source as it is not only organic but it is the fastest growing plant in the world meaning once harvested it will grow back at record speed. Other fun facts about Bamboo made garments are that they are antibacterial, powerfully insulating, hypoallergenic and make an extremely soft fabric.
