5 Ways To Spring Clean Your Style
- 5 Ways To Spring Clean Your Style -
We’re all dying to buy all the things on our spring/summer wish lists but before we can liven up our style for the warmer months by injecting colours and prints, first we need to spring clean our closets and our style! The wardrobe purge can be exciting, relieving, overwhelming, and stressful—all at the same time. But we've got some tips for getting the job done and de-cluttering your life. Here are our top 5 tips on how we think you can spring clean your style.
- 1) Don't Hoard -
Think of it as a cleanse or a detox although without the juices or 7 day a week exercising. Our top tip to de-clutter and reorganize your wardrobe is to start with a blank canvas. Use any space you have to empty our your wardrobe. For this step you’ll need a ruthless attitude and a killer playlist to get you in the mindset for a clear out! (No hoarding allowed) Remember to ask the 3 key questions when deciding what’s a keeper… 1) When was the last time I wore this? 2) Will I ever wear it again? 3) Does it suit me? If any of the answers leave you stumbling then the answer is to donate or dump.
- 2) Prioritise -
Once you have the subjects laid out, it will be much easier to parse through everything. The best way to proceed: divide and conquer. Organise everything into categories of what you want to stash, save, and bid adieu. Although we're moving into the warmer months, it's still prudent to keep a jacket and a knitted piece (or two) around.
- 3) Organisation Is Key! -
In order to find items quickly we think the best way to organise a wardrobe is by grouping. For example keep all basics together in order of sleeve length followed by tops, knitwear etc. until you’ve arranged your garments in an easy to find way. We also recommend keeping colours together if possible for a fool-proof way of finding what you’re looking for.
- 4) Fill Up Those Gaps -
Begin by separating your clothes into outfits to help identify what's missing. Perhaps you need more basics such as T-shirts and blouses to reinvigorate your casual style or maybe a pair of cropped and full length trousers or jeans to go with several new season tops. Make a list of the items you feel you need and then set out to fill the gaps in your newly organised wardrobe. Don’t forget those statement pieces to keep your style unique to you! Don't forget your accessories. A selection of colourful scarves – patterned or plain - jewellery, shoes and bags can help pull numerous outfits together.
- 5) Keep It Clean And Clutter Free -
Once you’ve cleaned, de-clutter and reprioritised your wardrobe a good way to identify which pieces need more attention and which pieces you’re over wearing is to put the hangers in backward on the rail after you’ve worn a piece of clothing. You'll then know by the direction of the hangers what you've never worn and what you’re wearing often.
